EXPERIENCE.
Tom “Big Al” Schreiter once told me his training does
not work. He stretches about 75 minutes of teaching
into 3 hours in his workshops by providing all
attendees opportunities to practice each skill they are
shown.
Tom said most people who attend his workshops do not
acquire any SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE because they do not
practice the skills in the real world when they get
home.
If I had a strong BURNING DESIRE to bowl a perfect
300-point game, then I would need to acquire some
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE. I could read books on bowling,
visit and study some bowling websites, watch videos,
attend webinars and conference calls about bowling. I
could even use one of those high tech, motion capture
video games to practice the right moves.
But, at some point, I’ll have to actually go to a
bowling alley and hurl balls at some pins. I’m thinking
it would be best to have a coach at the alley with me
who has actually bowled a perfect game, or at least
come close to it.
