Decision- The Mastery of Procrastination

A grown-up DECISION is one made with both HEAD and
HEART – not just one or the other. My good friend Don
Smith from Denver said there are three elements:

CHOICE, COMMITMENT, and ACTION.

It takes a long time for apple seedlings to grow-up and
become an income-producing orchard, and the effort does
not stop there – the orchard must be maintained.

Choice without Commitment is not a Decision. Commitment
without Choice is dangerous. If there is no ACTION,
there was no DECISION.

How about Action without Choice and Commitment? Sounds
insane…

Alright, to be honest with You, I’m really getting
tired of this apple orchard!

I thought I made a good, sound DECISION when I started
it. I mean, apples are about the most popular and
versatile fruit – all the things made from them
(Chapter 6), and folks love to combine them with other
fruits like cranberries.

I have a contact with a great wholesale buyer who
purchases most of my crop. They have a streamlined
operation, so they can afford to pay me the best
possible price for my apples. Over the past few seasons
I’ve been amazed at how much more they’ve been willing
to pay as their company has grown in size. They have a
long-term business plan, so I know they will be here to
buy apples from my children long after I’m gone. I know
the owners of the company personally, and I trust their
integrity beyond any doubt.

But the blizzards this year have made it really hard to
get out to the orchard, and I need to check the trees
for diseases and treat them if needed. What if we have
a long, cool spring this year? Then the blossoms will
come late and the apples will not mature in time for
harvest. To top it off, my idiot neighbor ran down a
section of my fence last week with his tractor!

Wait a minute! I just got a pretty, glossy brochure in
the mail about PEARS! It’s says pears are going to be
the next big fruit. Everybody is going to want candy
pears, pear sauce, pear butter, pear cider, and even
pear schnapps. The new phrase will be, “Mom and Pear
Pie!”

I can get in on the ground floor. Woo-HOO!

Uh, oh… Isn’t growing pears a lot like growing
apples? The trees require the same climate and have
similar challenges.

Wait a minute! Here’s a brochure from Florida about
ORANGE groves! Oranges rank up there in popularity with
apples. Plus I wouldn’t have to deal with blizzards
anymore…

And, if I get bored with oranges, there are always
lemons, limes, and grapefuit. Maybe even pomegranates.

Uh, oh… Didn’t they have a lot of frost damage down
there the last two years?

Maybe I could try something sexy and exotic like
papaya, kiwi, or passion fruit. Hey, I like the sound
of that… PASSION FRUIT!

Maybe I ought to just get out of the fruit business
entirely. At least THAT would be a grown-up DECISION.

the world: Folks who allow circumstances and
manipulation by others to determine the course of their
lives. They have NEVER MADE A GROWN-UP DECISION.

Perhaps people PROCRASTINATE for FEAR of making a
MISTAKE. For a Critical Thinker, there ARE NO MISTAKES,
just LESSONS LEARNED.

Hill says, DECIDE PROMPTLY, and CHANGE Decisions
SLOWLY. I would rather work with five people who Decide
Slowly but never waiver, than 5,000 who Decide Promptly
and give-up just as Promptly.

Try really hard the rest of today to NOT think about a
red-faced koala bear who is having a bad hair day!

Having fun yet? Your poor SUBCONSCIOUS MIND cannot
resist my harmless little Suggestion.

Go ahead… try REALLY HARD to STOP thinking about that
little koala with the bad hair and the red face.

OK, how many of us parents have said a stupid thing to
our children like, “Whatever You do, don’t touch that
vase!”

Or worse: “If You touch it, You will break it!”

Then we dumb-ass parents wonder why the child broke the
vase!

WHO planted the SUGGESTION in their little Subconscious
Minds? Left alone, the child may have never even
noticed the vase.

How many times have we said to someone, “Don’t hesitate
to call me.” – then wonder why they never call?

Their Subconscious Minds hear and act on, “Don’t call
me” and “Hesitate to call me.”

Meanwhile, how are we doing with the koala?

This is EXACTLY why You should avoid watching
television and listening to radio while You are seizing
OWNERSHIP of Your MIND.

Advertisers and programmers use fantastical images and
SUBLIMINATION (koala, anyone?) to plant SUGGESTIONS
into Your Subconscious.

Much of what we THINK is news, education, and
entertainment is actually masterfully crafted
SUGGESTION.

How else would masses of people embrace SUPERSTITIOUS
myths such as Global Warming?

Why in the world would talented folks spend their
precious time and resources instilling a myth?

A CRITICAL THINKER would ask, “Who stands to gain
billions of dollars from the public’s reaction to the
hoax?”

I have worked long and hard to flood my Subconscious
Mind with my own SELF-SUGGESTION through my SELF-TALK
and association with my MASTERMIND Group. And I am
enjoying benefits of that work.

Yet I must still guard against the attempted Suggestion
of others, especially of those who mean well for me.

The night before last week’s Mental Cleanse calls, I
had an amusing conversation with my baby cousin. (Well,
I was in high school when she was born.)

She is a licensed pharmacist who likes cuddly little
things like koala bears. Part of the conversation went
like this:

COUSIN: “What kind of health insurance do You have?”

ME: “Self insurance.”

COUSIN: “How often do You see Your Doctor?”

ME: “I check on him every four months, whether he needs
it or not. He cares for people very dear to me.”

COUSIN: “How do You pay for the visits?”

ME: “Cash.”

COUSIN: “You mean You don’t have ANY insurance?”

ME: “Life and Auto.”

COUSIN: “No HEALTH insurance?”

ME: “I’m not planning to get sick. When was the last
time You heard me complain about anything?”

COUSIN: “I can’t remember. But what if You…, or what
if You get…., or what if…?”

ME: “Stop that! If You only knew how much effort it
took me to get my head out of the ‘what if’s’ of the
future and the ‘if only’s’ of the past, and learn to
live in the ‘what IS’ of the present…”

COUSIN: “Alright. Suppose…”

ME: “Suppose nothing! That’s another way of saying
‘what if’.”

My cousin is beside herself because her 40th birthday
is next week (poor baby), and she is concerned she has
done nothing meaningful in her life thus far.

Yeah, I told her about the two best times to plant a
tree: Best – 20 years ago, second best – NOW.

She needs a Mental Cleanse:

Cut-off all external sources of chatter for 30 days and
spend quality time with Your OWN MIND, get to know WHO
YOU ARE, and discover Your LIFE’S PRIMARY INNER
PURPOSE.

Drink at least 1/2 ounce of water for every pound of
Your weight everyday to help Your brain cleanse and
build new thought patterns.

DESIGN and INSTILL Your own DESIRED thought patterns by
using AUTO-SUGGESTION (SELF-TALK) hundreds of times per
day as if Your life depended on it – it DOES!

You must shut-off ALL external sources of SUGGESTION
for 30 days. It takes 25-30 days to break an addiction,
or to replace one habit with another.

Watch television ONCE during the period, and You must
rest Your timer back to zero – and begin again!

AUTO-SUGGESTION – THE MEDIUM FOR INFLUENCING THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND

Inspired by Chapter 4 of Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

I often mused that Hill should have put this chapter
with Chapter 12, The Subconscious Mind. Why HERE, after
the chapter on FAITH?

AUTO-SUGGESTION induces FAITH, and FAITH empowers
AUTO-SUGGESTION. They feed each other.

Everything we BELIEVE is the result of SUGGESTION
planted by others – instilled, drip by drip, over time.

Most people feel a swelling of POSITIVE EMOTION when
they hear their national anthem played. Americans can
recite the Pledge of Allegiance instantly – without
thought.

Catholics can recite the Ave Maria and Pater Noster in
their native tongue (perhaps in Latin as well). Can the
same be said for our SELF-TALK?

Tom “Big Al” Schreiter teaches how to use “commercial
talk” to influence the SUBCONSCIOUS MINDS of others.

Wild, untamed apple trees spend much of their resources
growing branches to reach wide and high – seeking more
sunlight.

The owner of an apple orchard plants his trees far
enough apart so they need not compete for sunlight. He
prunes his trees to allow them to reach wide, but not
high. The grower SUGGESTS to them, “Spend Your
resources growing more APPLES!”

The same is true with spruces, pines, and firs. In the
wild they attain all sorts of fantastic shapes and
heights, befitting the spot they find themselves in.

A close friend of mine owned one of the largest tree
farms in New England. His many thousands of trees were
planted far enough apart, like an apple orchard. His
staff sheared the trees at every stage of their growth.

My friend SUGGESTED to his trees, “You need to be
symmetrical. You are Christmas trees.”

Who created dogs?

Show me a dog who was not nurtured with constant human
SUGGESTION, and I’ll show You an animal who has
rekindled its wolf nature.

Through SUGGESTION, apple trees BELIEVE they will
produce more apples, evergreens BELIEVE they are
Christmas trees, and wolves BELIEVE they are dogs.

What do I want MY Subconscious Mind to BELIEVE?

AUTO-SUGGESTION, SELF-SUGGESTION, SELF-TALK!

We’ve been doing SELF-TALK all our lives.

…Huh?

…YEAH!

Everything we have convinced ourselves about – we have
been saying over, and over, and over again!

I CHOOSE a SELF-TALK of my own design. It has the 3 P’s
– PERSONAL, PRESENT, and POSITIVE.

Why Personal and Present? Because it’s about what I
BELIEVE. The phrase, “I AM,” takes care of those.

Why Positive? Because it WORKS!

Uh-oh! …Put Negative in there, and that will work
too.

I’ve got to speak the right LANGUAGE though.

Oh no! There’s a LANGUAGE?

Yes, my Subconscious Mind and the CREATIVE FORCE it’s
connected to understand a specific LANGUAGE.

The CREATIVE FORCE has many names: Universe, Source,
Infinite Intelligence, Father in Heaven, Mother Nature,
The Force, Devine Matrix, Zero-Point Field, Quantum
Field, The NOW, and others – but one LANGUAGE.

Faith – Visualization of, and Belief in Attainment of Desire

Inspired by Chapter 3 of Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

FAITH, a State of Mind, is simply KNOWING. No
doubt…just Knowing. It exists by living in THE NOW.
Doubt lives in the future and past. What is NOW, I
KNOW. How can I not?

A wild apple tree seedling has FAITH in its water
supply. At its low level of consciousness, it does not
contemplate the possibility of no water in the future.
Water just IS.

FAITH is the result of CHOICE – a DECISION.

A farmer who has a PASSION for apples will plant and
nurture an entire orchard. These are not wild apple
trees – but trained creatures, cultivated with LOVE.
They are spaced so as not to harm each other, and
pruned to maximize their PRODUCTION.

For the apple grower, water is matter of FAITH. When
the CHOICE is made to produce apples commercially,
water is not an option.

Should rain from the sky be inadequate for the
orchard’s needs, the grower will devise a way to bring
the planet’s most abundant resource to the orchard.

There is no doubt, no puzzle. The water issue was
DECIDED when the grower made the CHOICE to create the
orchard.

How do I develop FAITH without a trace of doubt?

I begin by eliminating its opposite – the mind-set of
FEAR. Fear is the emotional energy I hold inside when
my thoughts dwell on the past or the future – the realm
of the UNKNOWN.

What I do not KNOW, I Fear.

FAITH is what IS…NOW!

I was conditioned all my life to question the past and
fret about the future. Changing my mind-set completely
to THE NOW does not happen in an instant. It is a
process.

What is the process, the formula for changing my
mind-set?
