Thoughts Are Things

Inspired by Chapter 1 of Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

Thoughts are Things? Really? What kind of “Things”? Can
You see them? Touch them? Hear them?

Where do they come from? Where do they go and hang out?
What do they do?

Thoughts are kind of like an apple seed…

Would it be OK if I asked You a question?

How many apples are in one apple seed?

Stop! Before You get philosophical with me, I’m asking
a LITERAL question here…

Go ahead, break one open. Do You see any apples in
there?

NO!

So what IS in there? A tiny bit of organic material.
Not much to look at, but this stuff is amazing! It
contains two things:

1. A tiny germ of the mysterious force called LIFE –
dormant at the moment, waiting for something to happen.
Not just ANY thing, but the RIGHT thing.

2. A pattern, a blueprint, an IDEA, a POTENTIAL, a
DREAM!

Take another apple seed, but don’t break this one open
and ruin it!

Plant thus little guy at the RIGHT depth, in the RIGHT
soil, in the RIGHT climate, and give it some water.

The little speck of dormant life force wakes up and
says, “Hello!”

It ATTRACTS the water You poured along with some
minerals from the soil, and sucks it in through its
shell. It grabs these RESOURCES and begins weaving the
beginning of a root system.

A tiny, barely visible root system, but soon the root
busts out of the shell and ATTRACTS more RESOURCES to
itself.

It keeps weaving until one day it is ready to shoot a
little sprout through the soil’s surface.

Now the REAL fun begins! The sprout can ATTRACT solar
ENERGY, and convert it to extract carbon from the
carbon dioxide it inhales – then exhale the remaining
oxygen for animals to breathe.

The baby apple tree has no idea where its future
RESOURCES will come from, nor does it care. It will
ATTRACT them when needed.

Some of its water may be snow crystals on the top of
Mt. Everest at this moment. Some of its minerals may
come from the fallen leaves blown by the wind from a
forest miles away. Some of its carbon may come from the
breath of a nearby dog’s great-great-grand-puppy.

All the RESOURCES that will one day be THIS TREE are
somewhere in some form. The tree will ATTRACT them
always.

And, yes, for many seasons this apple tree will produce
an abundance of apples – with the aid of insects who
will fertilize its blossoms.

And, yes, each of these apples will contain within
multiple seeds – each with the same pattern, blueprint,
IDEA, POTENTIAL, DREAM.

Thoughts, nurtured with the right DESIRE, the right
FAITH, the right LOVE, are kind of like that.
